I was watching V for Vendetta for the umpteenth time, and every time I watch it, one quote sticks with me:
"While the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power."
In a lot of ways, this quote is what put me on my track to writing. When you think about it, it makes so much sense both in V's world and ours. While television shows may be forgotten or music lost to the radio transmissions sent into space, the written word will forever remain strong and fresh. you my burn a book, but many will take its place, being just as provocative and heart wrenching. The influence the written word has on the world and the people inhabiting it has dropped significantly.
The world today is a wretched, horrible, and culturally barren wasteland. People today, especially the youth, are destroyed by the media. What do I mean? Turn your television on. Everywhere you look, people are dragged into socially acceptable norms that rid the population of any and every sense of creativity. You are told what to do and how to do it by just about every form of media out there. Buy this, wear that, do it this way, act like them. I weep every time I think of how this world has turned out. you have become a society of "Let's follow what everyone else does, that way we aren't looked upon as strange." I say "you" because I am nothing like any of you. I really don't give a shit what anyone thinks of how I act, what I believe in, or who I am.
Now a lot of you out there would say to me, "You're not the only one. I don't care what people say about me." I laugh at you and I have one thing to say. Nonconformity IS the new conformity. Wherever I go, I see these people who are trying to rebel against society with their Gothic makeup and razor blade cuts. there is nothing I hate more than fucking emos. They cry about how there life sucks. They sit in there dark room, blasting that horrible fucking garbage they call My Chemical Romance and write poetry about death, blood, and blackness. I use the term "poetry" EXTREMELY LIGHTLY.
Having said all that, there are very few of those people, myself included, who have no cares in the world. For those people out there, I applaud you. Still though, those people are far and few between.
So, in conclusion, what we need to do is bring this world back to the days when status didn't matter, when people would act totally different from one another and no one judged them as freaks or weird. We CAN do it, but it has to be done one step at a time.
Thank you for reading, and till the next post,
